HKIRBBTL: Mütants-Warriors 0-1

With the Helsinki-Kotka Interregional Turboleague already in full swing, the two remaining unengaged teams waded into the fray as the 3rd Street Mütants traveled to Tlaxtlan to face the lizardman Warriors. An unseasonal snowstorm blanketed the ancient city of Tlaxtlan, perhaps brought on by the unholy arrival of the Mütants and their nine thousand howling fans, who vastly outnumbered the cold-blooded local supporters in the stands. Warriors head coach Logan, to all appearances a wolverine, explained his team's objectives in the pre-game press conference: "Our game plan is to score more touchdowns than the opposing team."

The Mütants won the kickoff and chose to kick first.

The ball flew high off the kick, and there was an initial mishap when skink Raz-tepz-olo fumbled the catch. Fellow skink Chozlat managed to grab the bouncing ball and the Warriors ran a cage down the right side.

The Mütants regrouped to stop them:

Relentlessly pushing the Warriors toward the sidelines paid off for the Mütants when beastman Gatgor blitzed Chozlat straight into the crowd!

Luckily he landed among the outnumbered home fans, but Mütants supporters grabbed the ball and threw it to their team.

Unfazed, the Warriors ran skink Chouatec down the sideline to get the ball back.

Mütants beastman Dexgor grabbed the loose ball but was sacked by Warriors saurus Gar'tzi. Back on the right side of the field, the enterprising Gatgor smashed into Raz-tepz-olo and left him dead on the field!

A furious fight erupted for the loose ball in left field between Gar'tzi and two of the Mütants' beastmen. As the beastmen were getting the best of it, Chouatec dove into the fray, grabbed the loose ball and ran down the field for the touchdown!

Despite going up by a goal, the Warriors were shaken by their team-mate's death as they set up for the kickoff.

In the dying minutes of the first half, they launched an ill-advised attack into the Mütants' half that left the valiant Gar'tzi badly injured.

The blizzard raged on as the two sides set up for the second half.

Dexgor caught the kick-off as the ball went high again, and the Mütants formed a cage to protect him.

The Warriors reformed on their right to meet the Chaos attack, and Warriors kroxigor Soboq and Mütants minotaur Olegox smashed into each other with a thunderous crash! Both big guys toppled to the astrogranite, but only Soboq got up, leaving the minotaur knocked out cold in a snowdrift.

Quickly, the Mütants switched their attack to the left side of the field, but the fleet-footed sauruses followed.

With the pocket closing in around him and time running out, Dexgor took matters into his own hands and tried to blitz his way into the end zone.

He was stopped cold by Tzaruz the Rookie, who sacked Dexgor as he tried to storm out of the pocket. Both players ended up lying in the snow as the ball bounced toward the Warriors end zone...

Mütants beastman Zimgor managed to dodge past the lizardmen and grab the ball:

With the hulking kroxigor bearing down on him, Zimgor was sacked by skink Maztzi. Crushing prudence to the sward, the beastman made one more attempt to grab the ball but was tripped up by Matzti, securing the Warriors a 1-0 win in their first game in the Turboleague.

MVP honors were awarded to Warriors saurus Grall'ex and Mütants beastman Gatgor, who made an impressive league debut with a fatality and a spectacular sack in the first half of the game. After a hard-fought victory in a tight game, Warriors head coach Logan only had a brief statement for the press on his team's performance: "Good."

For two teams new to the league, both the Warriors and Mütants did well in their debut, the Warriors coming away with the win and the Mütants making them pay a steep price by scoring the league's second fatality. The Warriors' speedy skinks and fearsome line will be something to look out for, as will the Mütants' unrestrained violence!

HKIRBBTL: Murderers-Brutes 0-3

For their second game in the Helsinki-Kotka Interregional Turboleague, Mephala's Murderers traveled to meet the undefeated Braga's Brutes on their home field. Not surprisingly, most of the 19,000 fans in attendance were Brutes supporters. The circumstances were perfect for a bout of mayhem on the gridiron, as the weather remained perfect through the match. To gain an edge against the more experienced Brutes, the Murderers had secured the services of a wandering apotechary. Bloodweiser also sent the Murderers a free keg of their virile brew and a lovely wench to serve it to the players, continuing the endorsement deal worked out for the Murderers' previous game. Missing from the Murderers lineup was Balyn Omavel, nursing ribs broken in the game against the Buccaneers, his spot temporarily occupied by a journeyman lineman.

The Murderers won the coin toss and set up to kick.

Neither team got off to a very good start: the orcs looked predictably confused and the elves uncharacteristically rusty. Braga succeeded better than Eno Hlaalu in getting his bumbling players to some order, owning perhaps to his intimidating presence on the field. Brutes thrower Grab da Bol scored a touchdown halfway through the first half, the Murderers having failed to stop him.

The Murderers still didn't have their game together when it came time for them to receive. They started the drive with a touchback, a sudden gust of wind having thrown the Brutes kick out of bounds, but, already shorthanded, failed to protect the ball carrier. Understandably worried as Azgrum the black orc bore down on him, Giron Manas attempted a dump off before being blitzed, but failed his throw, which unluckily landed right at the feet of orc thrower Slib'ry Ands.

Manas attempted to rectify the mistake himself. Dodging around Grambad and going for it as fast as he could, he caught up to Slib'ry Ands, but the orc easily blocked his blitz and scored a touchdown to make it 0-2.

The Murderers still had time for one quick attempt. The Murderers' fans did their best to cheer their team on, actually managing to make as much noise as the much more numerous Brutes fans. Coach Hlaalu drew up a plan for a quick goal, but Shishi Yanumibaal failed to break through the Brutes line. The Murderers ran down the clock practicing passing.

The second half looked promising for the Murderers as the three players knocked senseless in the first half returned on the field. Braga used the half-time to bash some sense into his men and, indeed, the Brutes lineup looked slightly more professional when the second half started.

In the second half the Murderers finally stared executing their coach's game plan. Nina blitzed through the Brutes line, but failed to get any support.

Feeling pressure from the surging orcs, Manas passed the ball to Nina, who made the catch and sprinted for the end zone, hoping to outrun the orcs hot on her heels.

She did not.

The rest of the horde soon arrived, and in no time at all the Brutes had gained control of the ball.

Abassel Asserbassalit proved unequal to the task of stopping Grambad.

With four players watching from the sidelines and two more stunned on the astrogranite, the Murderers were out of the game. There was no-one left to stop the Brutes from scoring their third touchdown.

Just before the final horn, Grambad did the honors.

Final score: Braga's Brutes 3, Mephala's Murderers 0. After four games the Brutes have still not been scored on.

MVP selections for the game:
Braga's Brutes #8 Galoth (KO, active in key situations)
Mephala's Murderers #11 Vatollia Apo (more for grit than accomplishments, misses the next game with pinched nerve)

Braga's post match comment:
Braga bursts into the press room splinters flying through the air, breaking a silhouette of himself on the massive iron bound double doors; "Dit anyone see where dat scrawny newbie elf took off?!? Da one dat took a swing at me bollocks in da second 'aaf! I iz just want to talk to 'im, I iz promise not to bash hiz 'ed in or anyfing!"

Hlaalu's post match comment unavailable, reporter found stabbed.

T6. BRU #2 blitzes MUR #14 in an attempt to earn a new level...it pays off (SI = BH), BRU #11 KOs MUR #1
T7. MUR #15 fails to dodge in BRU #1 TZ (Braga screams foul smelling breath over the unlucky elf)
T8. BRU #7 without a care in the world and escorted by two of the remaining orcs from the defensive wall, walks over the TD line...GAME OVER!

HKIRBBTL: Antares Autobowl 2012: Brutes-Ravens 4-0

While the Titans and Buccaneers duked it out, the main field of the Antares Multiplex hosted the Ragnarock Ravens' season opener against Braga's Brutes. The much-anticipated Turboleague debut of the Ravens drew 11,000 screaming Norse fans and thousands of orcs to the stands and a surprise one-match endorsement deal from Bloodweiser for the home team. That Bloodweiser might well come in handy, because the visiting Brutes came to the Antares Multiplex with a 2-0-0 record and league leads in both touchdowns allowed and fatalities, having previously defeated both of the other Autobowl contenders. As the snow was cleared from the astrogranite, the Ravens won the coin toss and chose to receive in the first half.

After Ravens head coach Asatru Sjöfarare's tall tales about receiving wolf cubs from supernatural parties unknown (presumably some odd Norse permutation of Khorne), a lively anticipation surrounded their Blood Bowl debut. True to form, werewolf Freki leapt off the line at the kickoff and drove into Brutes lineman Galhag. Brutes player-coach Braga da 'Ed Bash'a, however, was wily enough to have anticipated the frenzied Norse, and Freki blundered into a line of waiting orcs who gave him a hearty Blood Bowl welcome.

As werewolf met astrogranite, the Brutes took the initiative and stormed onto the Ravens' side of the field. Ravens thrower Thor Åkenskaldi failed to pick up the ball, and Brutes thrower Slib'ry Ands grabbed it and ran into the end zone for the first touchdown!

The chastized Ravens set up for their next reception, minus one knocked-out lineman.

Seeing the weakness in the Ravens' dispositions, Braga called on the powers of Waaagh! His team exploded off the line in a devastating blitz, wrapping up the Ravens offensive line and sending the cornerbacks around the sides to attack the Ravens thrower.

With the roaring greenskins bearing down on him, in almost a rerun of the previous drive Thor Åkenskaldi fumbled the ball, allowing Slib'ry Ands to drive in. This time, though, Slib'ry Ands lost his footing and fell, but Åkenskaldi was also tackled before he could get to the ball.

In the chaos, the other Brutes thrower Grab da Bol grabbed the ball and doubled the Brutes lead to 2-0.

Faced with an 0-2 deficit in the first, Ravens coach Sjöfarare either momentarily lost his wits or decided it was time for a gamble, and set up four players in the left-hand wide zone at the kickoff.

The Brutes' dim-witted kicker failed to notice this egregious violation of the rules and launched the ball into the air, only for the referee to dash onto the pitch and blow the play dead. For a moment, total chaos reigned as jeers and rocks rained down on the pitch, Braga throttled his kicker and the officials struggled to separate the teams. When play was finally restarted, coach Sjöfarare over-compensated and deployed no-one in the left wide zone!

When the kick-off landed right there, Grab da Bol was able to live up to his name once more, but with time running out, all he could manage was a pass to blitzer Galoth. Meanwhile, blitzer Urghuk cheerfully knocked out Ravens lineman Per Yngve Ohlin.

After a truly awful halftime rendition of "Slaanesh on the Street" by a Norse skald, the Ravens fans were so dejected the Brutes supporters actually stopped fighting them, and started cheering for the team! Bolstered by their fans' support, Braga's greenskins set up for their first reception of the game.

The Brutes' offensive drive got off to a rollicking start as blitzer Sorgask smashed Ravens werewolf Geri unconscious. The two throwers proved they were aptly named when Grab da Bol picked up the ball and handed it off to Slib'ry Ands, who fumbled the reception. Ravens catcher Leifur Eriksson dashed in and grabbed the loose ball but slipped and fell, knocking himself out cold. Grab da Bol then attempted a pass to Galhag, who failed to make the catch.

Eventually the ball was delivered to Sorgask, who sped off down the pitch at a reckless pace, falling over just short of the end zone. Ravens lineman Reidar Horghagen attempted to dodge away from Braga and get to the ball, but the black orc brought Horghagen down with a ferocious tackle and a blood-curdling roar. Ravens lineman Jan Axel Blomberg, knocked out in the first half and returning to play in the second, was laid out by Galoth. Sorgask picked himself up, retrieved the ball and scored to make it 3-0 Brutes.

As the teams set up for the kickoff, the hapless referee wandered too close to the Ravens' fans. Still bitter about the illegal setup call in the first half, they rushed the field and scragged him! Neither side seemed particularly eager to take advantage of his absence, and play went on: the kickoff bounced out of bounds, and the Ravens were awarded a touchback. Black Orc Azgrum pushed Ravens lineman Thomas Haugen into the crowd, where he happily crowdsurfed on the reinvigorated Ravens fans!

The Ravens lost control of the ball in the mayhem, and between themselves, the Brutes throwers managed to get the ball under control and handed it off to Sorgask. He charged to the Ravens end zone and scored his second touchdown of the game to make the final score 4-0 Brutes. MVP honors went to Brutes blitzer Urghuk for his aesthetically pleasing knockout of Ravens lineman Per Yngve Ohlin, and to Ravens lineman Tomas Haugen for his inspired crowdsurfing, this being considered by far the best thing any of the Ravens players achieved.

With their decisive victory over the Norse team, Braga's Brutes are the clear winners of the inaugural Antares Autobowl. The Brutes are dominating the Turboleague in the early going with a 3-0-0 record and 7-0 goal differential; they have yet to give up a single touchdown! The Ravens must be considered lucky to escape their brutal introduction to the Turboleague at the hands of the Brutes with no permanent damage to their lineup, both injured players being expected to return in time for their next game.

Antares Autobowl final rankings:

1. Braga's Brutes (3 pts, 4-0)
2. Tor Achare Titans (3 pts, 2-1)
3. Blood River Buccaneers (0 pts, 1-2)
4. Ragnarock Ravens (0 pts, 0-4)

HKIRBBTL: Antares Autobowl 2012: Buccaneers-Titans 1-2

Despite the freezing temperatures, four Blood Bowl teams came together at the small island of Låts, just off the Norsca coast and home to the Ragnarock Ravens' winter stadium, for the inaugural Antares Autobowl. While the Ravens hosted Braga's Brutes on the main field, 14,000 fans had turned out to see the Tor Achare Titans and Blood River Buccaneers play out the next chapter in the ages-long rivalry of dark elf and high elf at the Antares Multiplex. "As the grand scheme, so the small," said Titans head coach T.Rex at the pre-game press conference. "Battle against Chaos is paramount."

The Titans won the opening coin toss and elected to kick.

The Buccaneers suffered an initial mishap as runner Clarius Vile failed to catch the ball, but the Titans were unable to capitalize. In the midfield blocking battle, Titans journeyman Gladroon sent Buccaneers lineman Galfir off with a broken hip, but before the Titans could make use of their numerical advantage, the Buccaneers had the ball in hand and were powering down the Tor Achare left.

Runner Clarius Vile broke through the Titans coverage and dashed for the end zone, but in a shocking turn of bad luck he tripped and fell, losing control of the ball just short of the line.

Titans lineman Carecalmo got to the ball and passed it up the field to a team-mate, who was promptly sacked by Buccaneers blitzer Mordak Blackheart. The unlucky Clarius Vile failed to pick up the loose ball and was blitzed and injured by Titans blitzer Teclis Turukáno. The Titans passed the ball forward to blitzer Finrod Angamaitë, who was in turn sacked in the Buccaneers zone. Lineman Malsadrian tried a long bomb to Mordak Blackheart, but the pass was off target, and the Titans recovered the ball and hung onto it until the end of the half.

In the last minutes of the first half, some of the Titans linemen and Teclis Turukáno demonstrated a chain push into the stands:

After the carnage of the first half, the Buccaneers had two players injured and two knocked out, leading to a lopsided second half kickoff:

The Titans caged the ball and broke through the Buccaneers' outnumbered line, sending lineman Khali to join his team-mates in the Antares infirmary.

At this point, the Titans could have held onto the ball and let the clock run down, but head coach T.Rex was adamant that his Titans respect the dictates of sportsmanship (at least in the regular season!). So Carecalmo passed the ball to Finrod Angamaitë, who scored his team's first touchdown. This allowed the Buccaneers to revive their knocked-out players and attempt an equalizer.

And in short order, Mordak Blackheart broke through the Titans defense and scored to tie the game.

There was still time on the clock, though, and the Titans regrouped for a final scoring drive.

Thrower Beleg Strongarm caught the kickoff and passed the ball forward to Finrod Angamaitë, who scored his second touchdown to put the game away for the Titans. A short drive after the final kickoff allowed Buccaneers blitzer Athlan Icecold to pick up a completion, and then the Titans' first win was in the books. The MVP was awarded to Buccaneers blitzer Avil Darksoul, and Titans lineman Carecalmo for a league-leading three completions in one game.

Titans head coach T.Rex was pleased with his team's effort, especially in frustrating the Buccaneers offense in the first half, although he freely admitted they would have been a goal down if not for Clarius Vile's spectacularly bad luck in running for the touchdown. After being shut out by the Brutes, the Titans offense scored on both their receptions. "Righteousness redounds on the righteous," he concluded. "Chaos is contained; order is supreme."

Keep your crystal balls tuned to this frequency for the Ravens' season debut in the final match of the 2012 Antares Autobowl!
