Ancient Aliens is a ridiculous pack of lies

I've been meaning to write a longer post about the farcical "History" Channel show called Ancient Aliens. For now, though, I'll just post this brief note. I recently watched one of its most-viewed episodes, "Unexplained Structures", and having seen it, I want to make one thing perfectly clear:

Do not believe a single thing the people on that show say. They're lying.

While it's possible that some of them mean well and are just misguided, the overwhelming majority of them are deliberately misrepresenting the truth in order to sell you stuff. The genuine scientists on the show probably aren't lying, but frankly, I question the judgement of anyone who appears on that show and isn't a kook trying to sell you a magic healing stone.

Let's just take a few examples from that particular episode. Firstly, Göbekli Tepe, the prehistoric megalithic site in Turkey. It's a pretty impressive, even revolutionary archeological find, but that doesn't stop Alien Hair Guy and his buddies lying about it. For crying out loud, the Wikipedia page I just linked tells us that even though the show says the opposite, both flint stone-working tools and the quarry the rocks were cut from have been found at the site. So there's no mystery whatsoever to how it was constructed. By people. With tools. No extraterrestrials necessary for assembly.

Much of the rest of the episode is set firmly in woo-land, with the usual wild narrative hopscotch ("if so...") and straight-up nonsense like the vimana dude walking among the Carnac stones and talking about their mystical auras. The bit set in the Americas does contain one of my favorite Ancient Aliens lines ever, when one of the "experts" explains that some of the Inca stonework has been exposed to large amounts of "thermal heat". The best kind, really.

By the way, they seem to mean vitrified stone. In both this and a previous episode, Ancient Aliens seems to treat vitrification as something that happens when an alien shoots a ray gun at a stone block. In reality, it just means the stones were exposed to fire. It may have been done deliberately, although it actually weakens the stone. Now, stone age people might not know that, but surely the aliens would. In my mind, their suggestion that the Inca built using alien rock-melting technology is completely ridiculous. If you have what basically amounts to concrete and want to build a wall, certainly you'd build a mould of the wall and pour in the concrete, as opposed to molding thousands of different-sized stone blocks and fashioning a wall out of them. But never mind that, here's an Inca shaman with a censer, and he says woo.

But it's the already mentioned Carnac stones that bring us to the most fantastically stupid claim in the whole episode: Alien Hair Guy tells us they're one of only three objects on Earth that are visible from space. He lists the Carnac stones, the Nazca lines (a perennial Ancient Aliens favorite) and, of course, the Great Wall of China.

Now, once again, there's a Wikipedia page: Man-made structures visible from space. It will tell you, if you don't know already, that from any altitude where the Great Wall is visible, so are a whole bunch of other things. The same goes for the Nazca lines, and as for Carnac, well, look at them:

The individual stones are really quite small, and if they're that evanescent in an aerial photo, do you really think they're uniquely visible from space? The claim is totally absurd. Then again, that information and the picture are from Wikipedia, and if you're liable to believe Alien Hair Guy, you probably think Wikipedia is a reptilian disinformation operation. Like this blog. Boo!

In fact, I couldn't find any source for the notion that the Carnac stones are visible from space... except Alien Hair Guy. Mostly the claim appears in the exact same "one of only three objects" form he made it in. So he literally made that up. And that's really what this show is about: making stuff up. Specifically, inventing totally implausible claims with no regard for observable reality or even Wikipedia-level research. Since just about everything I've ever fact-checked from that show has turned out to be just lies, I frankly recommend no-one believe a thing that's said on it without double-checking it. Even better, don't watch the damn thing at all. Nothing they've ever presented has any merit, and the joke gets kinda old pretty quick. Real history is much more interesting, exciting and even, at times, mysterious than puerile "lol aliens" TV.

Ancient Aliens does take your mind to another dimension. Unfortunately, it's made up, and it sucks.

A while back I read one of those books by Erich von Däniken, the apostle of these "ancient alien" theories. It's hilarious how often he seems to think the most logical explanation is that "it's alien". But yeah, one is left wondering whether these people actually believe what they're writing.

Leon said...

I attribute these "aliens did it" partially to some submerged racism. They can't comprehend that ancient non-WASP type people could build massive objects using nothing but human muscle (with alot of ramps, wood, rope, iron/copper/stone tools).

I have no idea what these twats said about the great wall but that just tells me they're idiots. The wall was built in parts by different kingdoms and then joined up during the reign of the 1st emperor. It's been rebuilt countless times as it's fallen apart, the current structure you see is from the Ming empire (14th-17th C). How good is this "alien" construction if it needs to be rebuilt several times?

That's exactly what I've been meaning to write up properly but haven't gotten around to: all this Atlanteans/Aliens/ancient Aryans did it -nonsense is fundamentally grounded in old 19th century racism, which flatly maintained that black and brown people can't build. The various Atlantis myths of a precursor (white) people who built all the great monuments of the world came about to explain things like Zimbabwe in a way that preserved the notion that only whites can create. I don't know if the Ancient Aliens people are racist or not, but that's where the ideas they're selling come from.

Without a doubt there is a strong racist undertone to many of the ancient theories for man, Darwin was one of the most racist as well. He not only thought everyone was inferior to the Nordic, he also addressed indigenous people as, "advanced animals".

Mans origin definitely has an intervention as part of it. Life without a doubt exist throughout the universe, inner verse, and other non thought of dimensions. The battle that we fight are the egos of the scientifically conditioned atheist, the mentally conditioned religious, and the ones that follow them. It is rare to find a free thinking individual that can change their mind according to the evidence and also common sense.

Ancient Aliens isn't a bad show. It has a lot of leads that people need to check out and realize that the lamestream story in his-story books is without a doubt filled with more lies than the Ancient Alien show. I'm not dismissing any inconsistencies within the show. I am reminding the reader that when their choice is subject to change then you are subject to growth.

Many Megaliths Statues, Stories, and Maps do prove something at least being an advanced civilization existing in the remote past. And when studied deeply enough we realize that there has been some type of intervention. Those who believe that the state or church would reveal the find to them are lying to themselves. The show has become a mockery of solid thought out situations about the enigmas that exist within the archeological finds throughout the world. The subject of ancient aliens really needs to be taken much more seriously. There are many credible researchers out there. Virgina Steen Mcyntire for instance ☺

If you people spent 1/2 as much time listening to what the show says as you do writing your foolish post's you would pick up on One simple thing. They never once say anything is fact. The "hair guy" AKA Giorgio Tsoukalous, constantly says one very important phrase that you idiots miss. That phrase is " In my opinion". Further more if you were to read the script of the show and not listen to it do you realize how many question marks (?) there would be. they are asking what if? Purposing and idea that frankly makes much more sense than that of a magical self contradicting god does. But as far as Religion VS Ancient Alien/Astronaut theory. Neither can be proven, the only way to know for sure will be E.T. comes down and shakes our hand or God returns and say's I am back. Cut and Dry!!!

Michael Halila said...

"They never once say anything is fact."

Nonsense. This has to be the silliest defence of this quackery I've seen. When Alien Hair Guy says something is visible from space and it isn't, it isn't "his opinion" or "a question mark", it's a statement of fact and an untrue one.

**

"Mans origin definitely has an intervention as part of it."

There's no proof for this. Taking something that can't be backed up with evidence as a starting point is hardly rational inquiry.

"Ancient Aliens isn't a bad show."

Yes it is.

"It has a lot of leads that people need to check out and realize that the lamestream story in his-story books is without a doubt filled with more lies than the Ancient Alien show."

Rubbish. History, archeology and anthropology, to name just a few, are sciences. Ancient Aliens is a fraudulent sales pitch for pseudoscience.

" And when studied deeply enough we realize that there has been some type of intervention."

No, that's exactly the wrong way round. When actually studied, by people who understand history, none of the things "studied" by Alien Hair Guy and his co-salesmen bear no evidence whatsoever of any kind of "intervention". No actual Egyptologist believes the pyramids were built by aliens, because they know how the ancient Egyptians built them. It's only when people with no understanding of what they're looking at start "studying" ancient monuments or whatever that this "evidence" starts coming up. None of it is genuine. It's all been fabricated by amateurs with products to sell.

"Those who believe that the state or church would reveal the find to them are lying to themselves."

I don't know where you're from, but where I'm from, neither the state nor the church has the power to censor science.

"The show has become a mockery of solid thought out situations about the enigmas that exist within the archeological finds throughout the world."

The show has always been a complete mockery of archeology, history and science in general. The whole ancient astronaut craze, from Däniken on, is.

"The subject of ancient aliens really needs to be taken much more seriously."

No, it doesn't. There isn't one single piece of evidence in existence that would justify taking it seriously at all.

@ Michael Halila;
You just seem to have all the answer's don't you? Here are a few things you missed.
What is it you are refering to as being visible from the sky that is not? You can't through a random sentence that is said out there and not explain where it came from or the context in which it was in. As far as mans origin having an intervention in it, well there are 2 schools of thought there, A. god created us, but wait thats an intervention. or B. we evolved, but from what? in which case things had to be just right on our planet so there is still an intervention of sort's occurring there as well or we would have been present on this planet from the beginning. so certain conditions must have been just right to intervene a such a time as was to make our existance possible.
You think ancient aliens is a bad show, but that is your opinion, for you to blast the internet with it is not a rational way to go about it and it speak's volumes of you and a person. Your obviously the kinda person who is always right and anything contrary to what you think is "nonsense" and you won't even hear it out. that way of thinking is whats wrong with the world today.
" History, archeology and anthropology, to name just a few, are sciences. Ancient Aliens is a fraudulent sales pitch for pseudoscience."
Funny you should say that, cause there our people from each of those disciplines on that show. Perhaps you should look at some of those peoples credentials and learn about who you put down.
If there is no sign of any intervention then how is it from al parts of the world the earliest cultures all have pretty much the same kinda creation stories, I do study history and it is not until the corruption of things like Christianity hit the scene do we find things starting to change. I have also had the privilege to visit many of the places they speak of, when was the last time you got out from in front of your computer and really went anywhere and seen anything first hand?
I liked this one the most. Neither the state nor the church has the power to censor science. Really? and your saying this after telling people they need to read or study History? Ever heard of the Catholic Church? Ever heard of some of the greatest early minds in science having to practice in secret for fear of the church finding out? Think how much more advanced we would be if we didn't have them censoring science for like 500 years.
You speak of the pyramids like you have Been there. When did you go? Cause I was there in 2001. And as far as I am concerned I have a hard time buying into the fact that They waked out of caves and just built the pyramid, I'm sorry it does not add up. These people didn't even have the wheel, or number zero. and they did it in 22 years? That would mean they would have to cut transport up the Nile and place 1 big huge block every 6 seconds. and they did it all with "STONE" tools. hey if you want to buy into that more power to you. Now the acient texts say "the pyramids were built by the hands of man with the help of the gods" plural, now we don't know who the gods were but they did not do it alone. and funny how no megalithic sites have been built since antiquity isn't it? The fact is science is flawed always has been 1,000 years ago "science" told us we were the center of the universe, then it was well the center of our solar system, then it was the sun went around us and so on and so on, science goes back on what they say way to much to put all your stock into it.

Now we do have fact, real evidence that there is life elsewhere in the universe. Don't fall off your chair just yet. I will explain. We have meteorites from Mars with Microbial life on it, they our being studied today it is not a secret it is a real thing, so technically it is a life form which is not of this earth so technically speaking it's an alien. and I know you have to like the technicality of it all being that your such a guy of science and archaeology and all that. so The ancient alien question has been answered and here is another technicality, Mathematics. can't fake that right it either adds up or not. Mathematically speaking the possibility with life elsewhere in the universe is overwhelming.
So maybe just say for whatever reason you don't like the show and not try to trash peoples work and expertise.

Michael Halila said...

"What is it you are refering to as being visible from the sky that is not?"

How about reading the blog post you're commenting on?

"in which case things had to be just right on our planet so there is still an intervention of sort's occurring there as well or we would have been present on this planet from the beginning."

That doesn't make any sense.

"You think ancient aliens is a bad show, but that is your opinion, for you to blast the internet with it is not a rational way to go about it and it speak's volumes of you and a person."

You just defended Ancient Aliens by saying the show is presenting an opinion, and now you're attacking me for doing the same thing. Also, how is me using my blog to present my opinion of a thing "not rational"? It's kinda what I have it for.

On the whole, you'd be a lot more convincing if you could defend a viewpoint without making personal attacks.

"Your obviously the kinda person who is always right and anything contrary to what you think is "nonsense" and you won't even hear it out."

What I said. Also, I love how taking specific arguments and examining their validity is "refusing to hear anything contrary out". What I'm trying to do is determine if there's any truth to these ancient astronaut claims. What you're doing is mounting a series of personal attacks on me for disagreeing with you. So yeah, I'd say one of us has certainly decided that they're right and everyone else is wrong.

"Funny you should say that, cause there our people from each of those disciplines on that show."

The host has a degree in journalism. David Childress has no academic credentials whatsoever. Erich von Däniken is a hotel manager with multiple criminal convictions for theft, fraud and what have you. Then there's your radio hosts and so on. The people making the actual claims are quacks.

(I'm afraid this is going to have to be a multi-part comment!)

Michael Halila said...

"If there is no sign of any intervention then how is it from al parts of the world the earliest cultures all have pretty much the same kinda creation stories"

First of all, they don't. Even if they did, to assume that somehow proves aliens were involved is a ridiculous conclusion to draw.

"I have also had the privilege to visit many of the places they speak of, when was the last time you got out from in front of your computer and really went anywhere and seen anything first hand?"

My private life is none of your business.

"Really? and your saying this after telling people they need to read or study History? Ever heard of the Catholic Church?"

Ever heard of context?

"You speak of the pyramids like you have Been there. When did you go? Cause I was there in 2001."

I hope you had a nice trip.

"And as far as I am concerned I have a hard time buying into the fact that They waked out of caves and just built the pyramid, I'm sorry it does not add up. These people didn't even have the wheel, or number zero. and they did it in 22 years? That would mean they would have to cut transport up the Nile and place 1 big huge block every 6 seconds. and they did it all with "STONE" tools."

The Egyptians didn't have the wheel, walked out of caves and built the pyramids in 22 years, placing one block every six seconds. I don't know what "history" you claim to have read, but this is complete nonsense.

"Now we do have fact, real evidence that there is life elsewhere in the universe."

Not really. The Martian meteorites show signs of possible biological life. That's not really evidence quite yet. For what it's worth, I expect we will find there was life on Mars, but that has nothing to do with this ancient astronaut mumbo-jumbo.

"Mathematically speaking the possibility with life elsewhere in the universe is overwhelming."

I don't recall ever saying anything about this, actually. That something is probable doesn't mean it's a fact, as you claim, and the idea that it's probable life exists elsewhere in the galaxy doesn't in any way "prove" this ancient astronaut nonsense. This is another strawman.

"So maybe just say for whatever reason you don't like the show and not try to trash peoples work and expertise."

The people involved with that show all have considerable expertise in peddling pseudoscience, selling their products and conning people who are trying to think critically into buying into their nonsense. I don't question their expertise at all. When it comes to history and archeology, though, they have no idea what they're talking about.

The whole point is that the show isn't "asking questions", it's packed full of deliberate lies from start to finish. I don't like lying, especially when cynical salesmen are manipulating people into buying their products by distorting the truth and replacing genuine curiosity with tin-foil-hat conspiracy theories and pseudoscientific mumbo-jumbo.

Ok we could go back and forth point for point, but in reality The show never claims for anything to be fact. In fact since replying to post on this blog I have gone on Netflix and double checked, sorry they just don't they say in my opinion a lot and kinda lead to certain suggestions but the long and short of it is there is no proof and they know they cant make that claim. Also keep in mind one very important thing. It is a TV show, first and foremost it is suppose to be entertainment. Not an actual source to obtain information. they have taken and idea, a theory and have tried to explore that through things we cannot explain. You mentioned just a very few cast members, the most seen ones of the show. But I assure you and I can assure because it is just a quick Google search away to see the entire cast and there credentials. They have anthropologist, archaeological people, NASA people,Religious people, astrophysics people, Egyptology people I mean it really is an impressive group of individuals that have been interviewed for that show.
I noticed at the top of your blog post you have a Sumerian symbol. That to me is very funny. Are you aware of there creation story? I kinda find it fascinating, and it was carved in stone like 10 or 15 thousand years ago and has never been changed or altered.Jason Martell has been on Ancient Aliens many times and he is huge into Sumarian research. Bill Birnes (JD) (BA)(PHD) is the UFO hunter guy he is a reoccurring face on the show. They have credible people.
Sorry I got side tracked but back to the sumarians they said we were created my a race of people from another planet, who made us to mine gold so they could crush it to powder and blast it into there planets atmosphere and repair damage they caused during their technological growth as a race. The Sumarians said this. Our earliest civilization just decided to stand up right and walk out of the caves and this was the first story they wanted to carve into stone and be remembered for, for all time? Really how would they know what an atmosphere is? Our another planet? and I just gave you the short version of the story. This info is not hidden, but it does make you wonder if maybe those guys are on to something even if there hair is funny looking.

Michael Halila said...

"The show never claims for anything to be fact."

I'm sorry, but this is beyond ridiculous.

"they have taken and idea, a theory and have tried to explore that through things we cannot explain."

They haven't actually presented anything we can't explain, they just lie to make it look that way.

"They have credible people."

Not really. Jason Martell is an IT professional, and Bill Birnes claims to have a Ph.D. in Medieval literature (you never know with these UFO guys). That makes him as qualified to comment on underwater UFOs as, well, me.

"The Sumarians said this."

No, they didn't. There is nothing even remotely like that in Sumerian or any Mesopotamian mythology. If you disagree, give me a reference to an actual primary source.

Seriously, check up on any single claim made by any of your "credible people" on Ancient Aliens. None of them are true. If you even tried to do any research of your own, instead of just believing what some guy on TV tells you, you'd see that they're full of shit.

Everyones A Critic said...

If them not claiming anything to be fact is so beyond ridiculous as you say give me an example of where they claim something to be fact, what episode of what season and by whom?
Simple enough right, since you claim they do it so frequently?
If they don't explore things we can't explain, then show me where it is explained and proven how all these early cultures made the huge megalithic structures that still stand today? How they built things and moved thing that in some cases we could not do today. Because I'm sorry but the jury is still out on much of them. "FACT" there our many theories from many credible peoples on how we "Think" it was done, but think is the operative word here. Even in the communities of people trying to explain this there is disagreement.
So when Bill Birnes Comments on Medieval literature that talks about strange sightings reported in Medieval times or in their art work he really in't qualified? See he does talk about things in his field but you go and take the furthest fetched thing he has ever spoke of and used that as an example. That is kinda a weak play wouldn't you say?
As far as a source for the Sumarian thing, There is only about a handful of people who are even qualified to translate there writings and the sad thing is each one of them come up with a different translation on most text. So I guess it would depend on who you like as to who you want to believe has the most accurate translation.
But I admit there is a lot of bull shit on the show, but again it is a show it is entertainment, they need shock value to keep ratings up. That being said anyone with 1/2 a brain should be able to take away what is serious and what is for entertaining and a lot of the ideas they propose are rather sensible when you look at the mainstream answer or lack there of.
There are a lot of credible people and scientist out there who get proved wrong everyday. Credibility is not always a good thing, and credible by who's standards? Those who keep getting proven wrong as time goes on?
It's been fun, But there is no real way to know who is right, unless as I said before E.T. comes down and says "I told you we would return".

Michael Halila said...

"give me an example of where they claim something to be fact"

I've asked you this before: have you read the post you're commenting on? In that episode, Alien Hair Guy himself makes the direct claim that there are only three structures on Earth that are visible from space. So you expect me to believe that when he says there are only three structures on Earth visible from space, he doesn't mean that there are only three structures on Earth visible from space. So in your view, they can say whatever they like, and if it turns out it isn't true, it was just "an opinion", or "asking questions", or "entertainment". That's a bullshit excuse for lying.

"show me where it is explained and proven how all these early cultures made the huge megalithic structures that still stand today?"

Have you ever done even the most rudimentary research into any of this yourself? Have you even looked any of this up on Wikipedia, for crying out loud? There's tons of research on megaliths and every single real thing that's been covered on that moronic show, but you can't be bothered to look any of it up because you've decided to believe everything a man on TV says.

What you're doing is the opposite of critical thinking. You aren't thinking, you aren't trying to ask questions or find out about the world we live in. You're just blindly taking on faith what people with a vested financial interest in spreading lies are telling you. It's kinda pathetic, really.

"How they built things and moved thing that in some cases we could not do today."

There are no megalithic structures we couldn't create today. This is a ridiculous lie.

"That is kinda a weak play wouldn't you say?"

Nope. You yourself referred to him as "the UFO guy", and didn't specify what his alleged Ph.D. is in.

"So I guess it would depend on who you like as to who you want to believe has the most accurate translation. "

No, it wouldn't. This is complete blather. There is a clear scholarly consensus on the contents of the Sumerian creation myth, and there is nothing even remotely like what you describe in it.

"That being said anyone with 1/2 a brain should be able to take away what is serious and what is for entertaining and a lot of the ideas they propose are rather sensible when you look at the mainstream answer or lack there of."

Yes, anyone should. But you've made it pretty clear during this exchange that you don't have the slightest idea what the "mainstream answer" to any of the questions that have come up here is. You talk about the pyramids in Egypt, yet you clearly have no idea how or when they were built; you talk about Sumerian mythology, but don't know the first thing about it.

So yes, I agree: anyone with half a brain should be able to tell that Ancient Aliens is a pack of ridiculous lies. More specifically, anyone with half a brain and even the most rudimentary knowledge of the actual facts, of the history and archeology, of the ancient civilizations that Ancient Aliens so blatantly lies about.

Try educating yourself instead of believing everything you see on TV.

Now it makes sense, Wikipedia. That's a great source. In my collage classes Papers turned in using Wikipedia as a source are thrown out. Even my kids school tells them not to use Wikipedia as a source.
I love how you discount anything I pose but you don't back it up. For example "There are no megalithic structures we couldn't create today. This is a ridiculous lie."
Says who? Prove this if you are going to discredit my statement.
Ba'albek, Lebanon. - (The 'Stone of the South). the approximate weight of this stone is 1158.696 tons. That being said, Just for you I got this answer from Wikipedia and it is --->Taisun
– double bridge crane at Yantai, China.
– 20,000 tonnes (22,046 short tons; 19,684 long tons) capacity, World Record Holder
– 133 m (436 ft) tall, 120 m (394 ft) span, lift-height 80 m (262 ft)
So the world record holder for what we can lift and move with modern technology is 20,000 Tons roughly,But wait there's more.
The Unfinished Obelisk, Aswan, Egypt. - Measures 120-feet (42m) and would have weighed over 1,168 tons when complete. Now it is well known the Egyptians didn't have the wheel yet so I would say this also goes in the unanswered category. There are many examples I could throw at you, but would any of it really be worth my time if your not going to receive it?
Ancient Aliens Season 2 Episode 2 Unexplained Structures. I did some research for you. "CONTEXT" is the key here. Yes he says only 3 things visible from space, he does. However the 3 things he listed and the comments of the person preceding him and following his statement are both referring to what would have been visible from space or the sky back then, not in present day. So I would argue he did not lie at all on that point. I must say you did pick about one of the worst episodes to watch and form an opinion about the entire series on.
On the contrary I have done lots of research on my own. I have been to many of those places and again the jury is still out on many of them. But you just say it is been proven or we know how and then jump to the next point you want to try and make, but you never show or prove or cite a source that can prove it? How then can I be sure your correct? Stonehenge, We don't know how they did it, The Pyramids we don't know how they did it, Mayan Pyramids, Easter Island, I mean the list goes on and on. Rather than just tell me I am wrong, show me that I am wrong, because if you can't back up what you discredit me saying then your just spouting opinions and lies, which makes you no better than the "Hair Guy".
As far as I did not specify what the UFO guys PhD was in, again I refer you to "CONTEXT" you said the people on that show have no credentials, I said he has a PhD. that is the context. Last time I checked a PhD was a respectable credential which is the only reason I brought it up. The whole Sumarian thing is apparently going to be a waste of time here.
"Try educating yourself instead of believing everything you see on TV." and the same could be said for you, cite a real source instead of Wikipedia. Back up what you say don't just say I am wrong and it is ridiculous, and not show proof for why I am wrong.

Michael Halila said...

"Now it is well known the Egyptians didn't have the wheel"

This is the second time you've made this assertion. I'm just going to leave it here, because to anyone with even the slightest knowledge of history, it's enough to show you don't have a clue what you're talking about. The rest of your post is just nonsense. When you say "we don't know they did it", what you mean is that you don't know they did it, because you refuse to find out. You're completely ignorant of history, but here you are making sweeping claims about it.

As for the structures visible from space, well, they're not. And he didn't say "sky or space", he said space. It's trivial to find out that that isn't true, so either he's an idiot or he's lying. Since I doubt an idiot could put together a succesful career like Alien Hair Guy has, as unfortunate as it is for science, I'm going with lying.

Your wisecracks about Wikipedia show a level of bad faith that suggests there's little point to continuing this exchange. If you ever actually decide to read some real history, maybe you'll look back on this and feel a little ashamed for yourself. Of course, actually learning is hard. Watching a silly TV show and affecting a sense of superiority based on total ignorance is much easier. Must be why it's so popular.

How about you go do some of that research on how the pyramids were built. Or better yet, find out if the Egyptians had the wheel or not. I'm not asking you to believe what I say, I'm asking you to find things out for yourself. Find, say, a book on the pyramids written by an actual Egyptologist. Then come here and tell me "we don't know how they're built".

Seriously though, check your facts on the Egyptians and the wheel. That might give you a notion as to how completely clueless you are.

Everyones A Critic said...

Dude at the time the earliest pyramids were built like say umm the Step pyramid it is a well known fact that they did not have the wheel yet. This info is every where and agreed. And you kinda side step around all the proving I asked you to do, didn't comment at all on the things I showed to me facts and what not. and where is your pick up a book mentality when your looking on Wikipedia? If collages and elementary and middle schools don't accept it that should tell you something. I can go on Wikipedia and create a whole page about ummm say the Egyptians not having the wheel, or even the number zero, do you know how hard it would be for an engineer to do the mathematical calculations to build a building without zero? but I could make a page like that for someone like you to come along and read it and then swear it was fact cause he found it on "Wikipedia"

Michael Halila said...

"Dude at the time the earliest pyramids were built like say umm the Step pyramid it is a well known fact that they did not have the wheel yet."

Why do you bother with this ridiculous backpedaling when our entire conversation is visible on this page? In your previous message you talk about the obelisks, which you maintain the Egyptians erected without the wheel. So you make a claim, and when it's challenged, you try to lie about what you originally said. Exactly like you're rewriting what Alien Hair Guy says to save it from criticism. If this is the level of intellectual honesty you're arguing at, there's no point in talking to you.

"but I could make a page like that for someone like you to come along and read it and then swear it was fact cause he found it on "Wikipedia""

...not to mention that I've spent pretty much this entire conversation trying to get you to read sime academic research, and you keep babbling about Wikipedia. If your reading comprehension is really so subpar that you think I get my information from uncritically reading Wikipedia, then good luck with college. You're going to need it.

Like I said: get a clue. Read a book by a real archeologist or historian. Don't talk nonsense about how we "don't know how the pyramids were built" and insist random strangers on the Internet prove you wrong. I'm not even remotely qualified to teach you about ancient Egypt. Find someone who is. Hint: they won't be appearing on Ancient Aliens.

Everyones A Critic said...

Why do I keep back pedaling? Well because You can't answer or prove me wrong, you just say I am wrong without showing me how or why you claim I am wrong. So am I to assume I am wrong just because you say so? Show me something with some validity that say the Egyptians had the wheel, The obelisk thing was to show you how if you recall the bit about them doing things back then that we could not do now? Yes we can not lift something of that size today, and yet they were moving it back then. Another one of those things you posed and I answered and you side stepped around it on your following post. But you are right about something, This entire convo is posted for all to see. They will see how you dodge questions, how you say things are lies but don't prove that they are. yes all is there to see. so my work here is done. Have a nice day!!!

A couple of observations:

Quoting Everyones A Critic:
"(The 'Stone of the South). the approximate weight of this stone is 1158.696 tons.

The Unfinished Obelisk, Aswan, Egypt. - Measures 120-feet (42m) and would have weighed over 1,168 tons when complete.

So the world record holder for what we can lift and move with modern technology is 20,000 Tons roughly"

So Taisun, the world's strongest crane, can lift nearly twenty times the weight of the largest monoliths ever quarried. How exactly is this supposed to demonstrate "we can not lift something of that size today"?

(As an aside, I love that "approximate" weight accurate to the kilogram, but I suppose it's just a conversion artefact.)

Also, the Stone of the South, carved by Romans who had some engineering pedigree, was never moved from the quarry and the Unfinished obelisk is still attached to the bedrock. The largest known monolith ever actually moved is the Thunder Stone (1,250 t), the base for The Bronze Horseman commissioned by Catherine the Great in the ancient past of 1770.

For a somewhat more recent, if smaller, example, see Levitated Mass. 340 tons is nothing to sniff at: we know of only a handful of monoliths heavier than that in all the history. This megalithic work was completed in the ancient past of 2012.

Regarding the Egyptians and the wheel: you first mentioned Egyptians not having the wheel when constructing "the pyramid", without bothering to specify which one, and again when discussing Unfinished obelisk. Now, as far as we know, the Egyptians didn't use the wheel in the Old Kingdom days, when most of the pyramids were built. Fair enough. Unfinished obelisk, however, is from the New Kingdom period, when the Egyptians most assuredly did have the wheel. When saying something like "the Egyptians didn't have the wheel" it would be wise to be a little more specific; even Ancient Egypt spanned some three thousand years, and they did certainly have the wheel for over half of it.

JTJ said...

Heh. It seems Egyptians might have had the wheel for even longer.

"We assume that wheels and carriages were introduced into Egypt only in the Second Intermediate Period, when Egypt was involved with its northeastern neighbors, who possessed horses and chariots. From then on, chariots became an essential part of the equipment of the Egypнtian army and were also used as prestigious toys of the nobles of the New Kingdom. The picture of the Old and Middle Kingdoms without the knowledge of wheels and carriages is shaken, however, by the discovery of two wall paintings of the late Old Kingdom and the Eleventh Dynasty depicting siege towers that were moved on wheels (fig. 6.44).136 It would be strange if transport wheels were restricted to only military purposes and not used for moving other heavy weights as well."

Everyones A Critic said...

@ JTJ Finally some who shows where they are getting there info, so that I might cross reference. In one of the later post's I did specify the "Step Pyramid" which as we all know is the first and there for the oldest, but also I believe set the standard for the other pyramids to follow.
The obelisk was never erected because they found large cracks that occurred naturally in the rock they were quarrying and could not use it cause it was not perfect. I am going to go out on a limb here and say I don't think they would have gone through all the effort & Expense of making what would have been the largest Obelisk, If they did not have a way to erect and place it. Just does not make any sense and these people were extremely smart.

JTJ said...

Okay, so I guess we are all on the same page here. We can build monolithic works today if we want to. The ancient Egyptians, smart cookies that they were, could figure out how to do it, too. Ancient Aliens is a ridiculous pack of lies and baseless speculation designed to sell fringe theory books to the gullible.

Everyones A Critic said...

I will say that any of the structures today aren't built with near the caliber of craftsmanship and structured integrity that those of the past were built. In the past they work with stone, I mean the Pyramids have lasted roughly 5,000 years. The Empire State Building,Sears Tower, Effile Tower. These things all need constant maintenance to stay standing, while the monolithic works of old do not. They were built and built right they stand the test of time. I would not say that everything on AA is a pack of lies. Why does everyone say they are selling something? I have never once seen and 800 number pop up and the bottom of the screen to sale you something, with the whole but if you order now get a second one for free bit. I have seen replicas of Ancient artifacts advertised on there website, but it is History Channels website. If it were Alien Hair guys website it would be "legendary Times' website not History. Furthermore, Why should they not sale replicas of Ancient history? We need that type of thing to keep history alive, to inspire people to seek the truth, and maybe one day we will find it and not have to have Scientist VS Alien Hair Guy speculate, we will know for sure.

oldgoldtop said...

someone asked "Why does everyone say they are selling something?"

The experts most often appearing...Eric Von Dankien is selling his series of books and has made a career out of very questionable claims. Georgio Tsoukalos is selling his publications (Legendary Times) and is the director of Von Dankiens Center for Alien Research. He is also a producer of the show! The show is presented in a quasi scientific manner with very little (none) opposing information. PT Barnum said it best!

Google some of the regular "experts"...linda moulton howe,
philip coppens, nick redfern, Philip J. Imbrogno
They all are likely paid consultants (selling their services) and are promoting themselves having made careers as authors, lecturers, radio hosts etc. based on selling this "junk science" to the masses of people who want to believe in this and are unable or unwilling to make much effort to question these claims.

I read Chariots of the Gods in the 1960's but was disappointed at the lack of logic and rationality he employed. Look him up in Wikipedia for a sample of many errors and omissions in his claims.

Actually the development of the pyramids was fraught with failures. Early ones were unable to stand and collapsed. The builders learned from their mistakes and each improved on the next. It makes little sense to compare modern steel framed skyscrapers to solid stone tombs of little utility . You cannot build a skyscraper out of masonry or stone. Very few ancient structures survive at all. Nature will eventually reclaim most anything man builds.

This article, ironically like the claims it is set up to debunk, offers no proof otherwise by just saying that other theories are nonsense. This article is rubbish full of off color commentary rather than a working recreational opposition to conjectures otherwise stated. Let me tell you something, I know, people know, we need an explanation period, stop saying its weather balloons & atmospheric gases because when you truly witness something you know that is not what you saw. But I guess we shall just believe what our good ole government tells us about the world cause they wouldn't lie or cover anything up. (sarcasm in case you missed it)

Ok, there is a great deal of arguing about this show. I want in lol. first, I absolutely love this show! It is hilarious! I am, by far, not an expert in history, archaeology, anthropology, theology or any other Ology. However, I have a brain, I'm a rational person and have the ability to smell bull shit. To make a statement like "they never say it's fact, it's for entertainment" is stupid. this show is on the History channel, the purpose of this channel (originally at least) was to educate so they are attempting to say this stuff is fact. also it is mathematically improbable that life, and in MY OPINION intelligent life exists only on this planet. however that doesn't mean that any of this shit is true. As a Christian (here comes the insults) I have many theories that involve my God, however none of my beliefs are contrary to science. you can't say that belief in God is contrary because just as I can't prove scientifically he's there you can't prove he isn't. The idea that ancient man was visited by aliens because there "gods" came from the sky is preposterous. Where the hell else are they going to come from? the only place ancient man couldn't go was the deep sea and to space. out of those two places Sky seems like the logical place for them to come from. also the forces that they attributed to the "gods" came from the sky. lightning, wind, rain, the sun, the moon, the stars, all of these things are in the sky so the folks that control them must also be there. This show is entertaining to me, only because I can sit there watching the show and come up with better ideas of how the things happend than they do with out any research at all. there is also a silly idea that man was stupid in the past. We weren't stupid or at least not much more than we are currently. we build on technology we already have. it's like steps, as with any other process on earth. we may not have been able to build space ships and stuff but the idea that we would assume that something was a "god" with out them saying they where a "god" is a bit silly, obviously just because something flies in the air doesn't make them divine, birds fly and we eat them. also there is quite possibly a whole large portion of our history as a race and technology we lost because we lost the library of Alexandria. if that library where to be discovered I think, Me not history books or what have you, we would discover that we had figured out a great deal more a great deal earlier than we currently think we did. I'm not saying we had computers and shit, but we weren't stupid is all. Also the idea that people in the past wouldn't build stuff just because they could is stupid too. we do that shit why wouldn't they, we built the eiffel tower, why? not freaking aliens but because we freaking could. That's one of the wonderful things about being human. we think to ourselves, "wow! no one else has ever done this, no one, I bet I could though!" I doubt that's a recent development to the human brain.
well that's my two cent, for what it's worth.
"the truth is out there... and it could be very boring"

update on my opinion. I watched an episode recently about aliens and angels. in this episode they claim that in the old testament of the Christian Bible, it says that Enoch was taken up in a chariot of fire. I have read the bible many times. that is not in there. it says he was taken by God but no chariot of fire for Enoch. so now I'm wondering how much they lie about since they lied about that.

It's Elijah, not Enoch, who gets taken up to heaven on a whirlwind, featuring a chariot of fire. 2 Kings 2.

As far as bad mouthing Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is getting pretty reliable these days. More expert sources and a lot more research is going it to the answers. Of course that doesn't mean that Wiki can be relied upon 100% of the time. Of course we know our official history books are a work of political expediency in many cases so I'd have to say it's a wash.
As far as the believability of this particular information, I'd just say, take it with a grain of salt and an open mind.
After all out of all 200 or so Christian religions in the US that claim to except the same document (the Bible) as their basis for belief in God, I doubt you'd get too many to agree on the details of religion, otherwise they all wouldn't be calling their churches by different names. Think about it.

I was sitting up late watching Ancient Aliens when I decided to check a few of the comments for accuracy when I stumbled across this post. I think I had more fun reading the comments than actually watching the show. I know it has been a long time since anyone has posted but I hope a few still read this. My background: BS and M.Ed. in history, currently teach history. One of the first courses any person serious about history has to take is “historiography”. In this class you quickly learn how history was and still is written. The popular history we learn, teach, and study is a narrative always written with a bias. Many times the popular history is inaccurate or simplified so much there is little truth to it. Ancient Aliens is no different than just about any history book. It takes a lot of work and study to get close to the truth and then with many issues there is just not enough evidence to get the full story. If you believe much of our popular history you are in a dream world. On the first day of class I give my students a quick quiz with questions they will easily know the answers to. In fourteen years, teaching over 1400 students, only 4 students have made a passing grade. What are these tough questions: (1) How many animals of each kind did Noah take on the ark? If you answered 2 like all but 4 students then you need to read Genesis, Chapter 7.(2) Who was the first president of the U.S.? If you answered George Washington you need to do some research. George Washington was the first president under the Constitution. The U.S. was independent for roughly 13 years before the Constitution. So we didn’t have a leader??? Yes, we had seven, President of the Congress. The first was John Hanson. There is even a letter from George Washington congratulating Hanson on being the first president. Why don’t we count the leaders under the Articles of Confederation? I have no clue, but just goes to show how popular beliefs are not always accurate. Of course the test includes many more questions that are very simple but most often are answered wrong. I use this test to teach my students that if you never do the research and reading yourself you really do not know what is accurate. This goes for school, church, life, etc. research and read it yourself. Ancient Aliens is fun. I don’t believe everything or maybe even most of the stuff but I enjoy using it to research subjects in history. One more thing, the ancient Sumerians were fascinating. Read about them. However, you will find disagreement over the translations. And don’t get me started on the Bible. I am Christian but I have researched how the Bible was written and translated. Another interesting story. If you are Christian you should really research how the Bible was put together and how the church determined if Jesus was divine. I love this stuff. Life is an opportunity for education and enjoyment.

In this great big world with all it's legitimate mysteries and head scratchers why must some continue to claim that previously explained/explored/chronicled structures, mythologies etc. are connected in someway to "ancient astronauts"? Like, I get why people are interested in bigfoot, ufos, cryptids, ghosts and the like. They're evocative subjects. There are eyewitness accounts, videos, pictures, physical evidence blah blah blah. BUT, evidence that our history as a species has been molded by extraterrestrials? Evidence that our "Gods" of antiquity were actually "ancient aliens"? NONE. At best it's all conjecture/creative interpretation, at worst it's blatant snake oil salesmanism. I like to think I have an open mind. I enjoy reading about life's mysteries (Dyatlov pass, the grinning man, mothman, pre-wright brothers flight/airships, and ghosts being some of my favorites) but even for a Keel loving Bigfoot fanboy like myself this Ancient Astronaut stuff makes me sad. It's depressing to hear people low rate every amazing achievement man has ever completed or attempted. Pyramids? Aliens. Mythology? Aliens. Technology? Aliens. Evolution? Mutha fuckin ALIENS. It get's a bit tiresome. All I can really say is that Occam's Razor is mighty sharp and it cuts through bullshit like no other. All in all this was a very entertaining discussion. Thank you all for throwing in your two cents and always remember kids, if you hear horses a'comin, don't expect zebras.

It's a t.v. show and its purpose is to get you to watch the advertisements that sponsor it. It's just a filler. As far as "what if" shows go its the worst. There are no scientists on the show and no religious scholars and yet they try to back their philosophy with the Bible and with science.

As I understand it, vitrification of stone requires heat in excess of 1,000 degrees F. That isn't possible without a kiln or other oven like device,if they're vitrified, it certainly isn't possible with such large stones as carnac. Whether or not it is visible from space,it,along with its fellow weird sites on earth deserve as much scrutiny as possible, even if that scrutiny brings to bear unusual tactics and thinking.Maybe then some light can be thrown on the origins and originators of these amazing megaliths.

Just to inform you that you are wrong about them finding microbial life from mars. The meteor that they found does at first look like a dead bacteria but now that our election microscopes have improved at a closer look they are actual rectangular object one against the other not round it all smooth like bacteria would be and life doesn’t come in straight lines and right angles. Seriously look it up I’m not joking. Just FYI.

Is that a necessary truth??? We really have no proof of aliens. We do have proof of forces.

All I gotta say is The force of the one and only Almighty God holds all things together, creates it and disperses it when its served its purpose. If you can prove otherwise, speak freely and source it for those who need it.

Common sense is all you need. If there is nothing greater than, what can be thought, Its a necessary truth ,,GOD,. -Dont take an 'alien' scientist. ;i

And think about it if I was part of the church and wanted people to do what I say I'd fake what's written on them papers fond years ago to suit my needs / church's need. Like build a building and give me money it's ok it's in the bible but 99% of bible has jesus doing hes thing out side by the river or farmers field not in a building.

Ancient Aliens Pyramids of Antartica is a bunch of bull. David Wilcock says "ships were cut in two by beams from flying saucers,

One Martin PBM Mariner crashed during a Blizzard, and three man were lost...the show said the left in a hurry, like
they were afraid of flying saucers...they were there from 26 aug 1946 until Feb 1947 and left because of early winter, and
worsening weather....

As for the site in tuleyT wheew no tools were dound, me being a builder, it's standard.

I realize that this is an old post, but I enjoyed every line that the author has written. The Hair Guy is bluffing all along and either he doesn’t know anything or doesn’t want anybody to understand what was really going on in Carnac (France), Karnak (Egypt) and Kornak (India). I have explained what it was, what has happened to these sites in the relatively recent past (the last 12000 years) and I can shut up any unemployed a*hole whose job it is to ridicule people with a healthy working brain LOL The ancients understood perfectly well what a spark gap is (cf. Jacob’s ladder) because they built the so-called « ark of the covenant » which was a wireless radio transmitter. They used at least 5000 years ago the MBC technology (meteor burst communication) and the EME (Earth-Moon bounce) technology for interstellar radio communication. It was not to communicate with alleged aliens... but they used the Doppler effect to survey stars (particularly but not exclusively the Orion constellation) and these darn « extraterrestrial » rocks like comets, asteroids and meteorites who have plagued our planet... which is Noah’s ark, by the way... so don’t look for it in Mount Ararat or at the bottom of the ocean. If the « out-of-Africa » human migration theory is the only (correct) one, then it is obvious that those Africans such as - only a few examples - the Oron, Dogon and Siri People were the first observers of the Sky. I wouldn’t be surprised if Orion got its name from the Oron; the Dog star (Siri-us) from the other two. These people and all the others around the planet survived several close supernovae and many cataclysmic impacts: no wonder that they kept a watchful eye and ear on what is above our heads.
